Take My Yoke

Come to Jesus, take His yoke, and learn His gentle and humble way into rest.

Read

Read the complete passage aloud.

Primary passage

Matthew 11:28–30

28 “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

World English Bible

Jesus invites burdened people into discipleship under His authority, contrasting His gentle teaching with crushing loads.

Discuss

Listen carefully to what Jesus says.

  1. What does Jesus command?
  2. What does this passage reveal about Him?
  3. Where do we resist this command?
  4. What is difficult or unclear?
  5. How is taking Jesus' yoke different from escaping responsibility or adding another religious burden?

Practice

Choose one specific act of obedience.

Name one burden you are carrying alone. Bring it to Jesus, release one self-imposed demand, and practice the next step He actually gives.

Return

Come back and discuss what happened.

Which burden changed as you carried it with Jesus and learned His way?

Close together

Pray. Then prepare to teach.

Pray

Gentle Jesus, receive our weariness. Teach us your pace, your humility, and the rest found under your good authority.

Teach

Present rest and yoke together: Jesus does not invite passivity but shared, teachable life under His gracious rule.
