Meeting guide · command 30
The Narrow Gate
Enter through the narrow gate and remain on Jesus' demanding path toward life.
Read
Read the complete passage aloud.
Primary passage
Matthew 7:13–14
World English Bible
Luke
Luke 13:23–30
World English Bible
Jesus contrasts an easy, crowded way ending in destruction with a constricted way to life, warning that presumed familiarity does not replace response to Him.
Discuss
Listen carefully to what Jesus says.
- What does Jesus command?
- What does this passage reveal about Him?
- Where do we resist this command?
- What is difficult or unclear?
- What makes Jesus' way feel narrow now, and what forms of presumed belonging might substitute for obedience?
Practice
Choose one specific act of obedience.
Identify one place where the easier, widely accepted choice conflicts with Jesus' way. Choose the faithful path and ask another believer to support you.
Return
Come back and discuss what happened.
Which costly choice did you make, and what helped you remain on the path when the easier option was available?
Close together
Pray. Then prepare to teach.
Pray
Jesus, lead us through the gate that opens to life. Free us from following the crowd or trusting religious familiarity instead of you.
Teach
Teach the warning with humility: the narrow way is response to Jesus, not a tool for declaring ourselves superior to outsiders.
