Give Your Heart to God

Luke 11:37–41

37 Now as he spoke, a certain Pharisee asked him to dine with him. He went in and sat at the table. 38 When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that he had not first washed himself before dinner. 39 The Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness. 40 You foolish ones, didn’t he who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and behold, all things will be clean to you.

At a Pharisee’s table, Jesus confronts concern for external washing while greed and wickedness remain within, directing attention toward inward generosity.

Listen carefully to what Jesus says.

  2. What does this passage reveal about Him?
  3. Where do we resist this command?
  4. What is difficult or unclear?
  5. How can religious appearance hide greed or self-protection, and why does generosity expose what holds the heart?

Practice

Choose one specific act of obedience.

Name one hidden motive beneath a respectable appearance. Confess it and make one generous action that directly challenges it.
